Botox in Dentistry

Botox, which is the abbreviation of botulinum toxin, has been used in medical treatments for many years. However, when we talk about botox, the first thing that comes to our mind is cosmetic applications. We can say that it has become quite common in dental treatments in recent years. The most commonly used dental applications are Bruxism (teeth clenching) and Gummy Smile (smile aesthetics).

Bruxism means involuntary clenching or grinding of teeth. It can cause many dental problems over time. Botox is applied from different points to the muscles we use when clenching our teeth, and the tightening process of the muscles is stopped. It is treated without affecting chewing function.

Gummy Smile, which we also call smile aesthetics, is another botox application used in dentistry. Gums that appear larger than normal when smiling or speaking gain a more aesthetic appearance after the application.

Although Botox is not permanent, the repeat process of the procedure is determined by your dentist.
